It doesn’t matter where you live, what your background is or what political party you belong to, there has become less and less doubt that our planet is warming. The potential impact could prove to be very detrimental.
Candor was founded with a belief that one company CAN make a difference by proving to others that being “green” WORKS! Here’s why:

- Telecommuting – We encourage our employees to work from home. For each employee who telecommutes, the time savings, cost reduction and reduced CO2 emissions are enormous! Numbers cannot be disputed. Here’s a breakdown of the benefits based on a compilation of average figures in major metropolitan areas:
TIME SAVINGS
- The average worker spends over 60 minutes per day commuting.
- In addition to the average commuting time, those same workers will also spend close to 70 hours per year or 16 minutes per day in traffic delays due to congestion.
- That brings the true average daily commute tally to about 76 minutes per day!
- Assuming the average person sleeps 8 hours a day and is awake for 16 hours a day, then the amount of time they commute equals 19 waking days per YEAR! That’s nearly THREE WEEKS per year spent in a car going to work! Imagine what you could accomplish with three weeks of extra time. How would you allocate it? How many books could you read? How much time could you spend exercising? What activities would you do with your children? One thing is certain. You are much happier spending that precious time as you please rather than sitting behind the wheel of your car! Regardless how you spend you newfound time, it will likely result in you being much more productive and efficient at work.
MONEY SAVINGS
- The average commuter travels over 33 miles per day going to and from work.
- That’s 8,250 commuting miles driven per year.
- Using a realistic fuel efficiency rating of 22 miles per gallon, then 375 gallons of gas are burned each year just to get to and from work.
- At $4.25 per gallon, the average telecommuter saves nearly $1,600 per year for the luxury of working from home!
- Excluding fuel the combined cost of driving a vehicle is roughly $0.80 per mile. This figure includes vehicle maintenance, tires, tolls as well as other factors. 8,250 miles driven per year equates to a cost of about $6,600.00 (excluding fuel).
- Adding in the cost for fuel, the TRUE COST to commute to and from work equals $8,200.00! What would you do with that additional money? We’re sure you could find some good use for it!
REDUCE CO2 EMISSIONS
- One gallon of gasoline creates 19 pounds of carbon dioxide (CO2), which is believed by many to be a major contributor to global warming.
- Therefore, telecommuting reduces CO2 emissions by 7,125 pound per employee, per year. That’s over three and a half TONS!
- The average U.S. household emits 19 tons of CO2 per year.
- For every 100 employees at Candor who telecommute, the annual reduction of CO2 emissions equal to the entire annual consumption of over 18 households! By any standards, that’s an extraordinary result!
- Reducing Paper – While many people claim to be paperless, very few actually are. At Candor we are continually striving to eliminate paper every opportunity we get. Aside from the deforestation (another believed cause of global warming), there are tremendous CO2 emissions that result from the plants that produce commercial paper. When paper is mailed, there is also the effect caused from the planes, trains and automobiles used for transportation.
CANDOR DOES THE FOLLOWING:
- Seek vendors who can provide electronic invoices in lieu of hard paper copies.
- Utilizes electronic payments as frequently as possible.
- Use paperless wholesalers as often as possible. This is a huge reduction since some wholesalers require not one, but TWO copies of your loan application package along with the original. What a waste! All other things equal, we will always select the paperless wholesaler over a non-paperless one.
